MOIRA PATIENCE

Day to Day Wear
Remove for Some Activities
Our pieces are made to be worn every day. However, we do rocommend removing your jewels for activities like weight lifting, gardening, or contact sports to avoid unnecessary knocks and scratches.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Household cleaners, chlorine in swimming pools, and personal products like hairspray or perfume may dull metals and gemstones over time. Apply perfumes, lotions, and cosmetics before putting on your jewellery to minimise exposure.
Look After Your Gemstones
Although diamonds and certain coloured stones are durable, others can be more sensitive to daily wear. If you’re unsure about your gemstone’s hardness or whether it needs extra care, feel free to get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.

Proper Storage
Separate & Protect
Store each piece in its own soft pouch or lined jewellery box to prevent scratching. This is especially important for pieces with precious gemstones, as they can scratch metal or other stones if jumbled together.
Climate Control
Aim to keep jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or extremes of temperature. Humid environments can tarnish metals more quickly and can affect certain gemstones.
Travel Tips
If you’re taking your jewellery on holiday, use a dedicated travel pouch or small case with dividers. This ensures each piece remains secure and protected during transit.

Cleaning at Home
Mild Soap & Water
For most precious metals and hard gemstones, a gentle wash in lukewarm water mixed with mild soap (like a gentle dishwashing liquid) can do wonders. Use a soft toothbrush to remove any residue from nooks and crannies.
Avoid Abrasives
Steer clear of harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners (unless you’re certain your stone can withstand it), and abrasive cloths that may scratch metals or damage softer stones such as emeralds, opals, or pearls.
Pat Dry
Rinse your piece carefully under clean water, then pat it dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Make sure your sink is plugged or that you clean your jewellery over a bowl to avoid the risk of losing anything down the drain.

"Looking after your jewellery is not just about aesthetics - it’s also about preserving the sentimental and intrinsic value it holds."

Professional Maintenance
Regular Check-Ups
Even the finest craftsmanship benefits from periodic inspection to ensure settings, clasps, and prongs remain secure. If you notice any looseness or suspect a stone may have shifted, get in touch right away.
Lifetime Polishing & Cleaning
At Moira Patience Fine Jewellery we offer complementary lifetime polishing and cleaning for all our creations. Simply contact us to arrange a time to drop by, or safely post your piece to us.
Re-Polishing & Restoration
If your ring or pendant has a special finish (like a brushed or textured surface) or if it’s sustained any scratches, we can often restore it to its original state. For more extensive work, such as resetting stones or repairing wear and tear, we’ll discuss the process and any related costs with you beforehand.

Insurance & Peace of Mind
Insure Your Investment
We always recommend insuring your precious pieces - particularly those with higher-value gemstones. Whether you add them to a home contents policy or opt for specialist jewellery insurance, ensure the coverage is valid outside the home and during travel.
Updates & Appraisals
Over time, the value of precious metals and gemstones can fluctuate. Consider updating your insurance valuation periodically to keep it current.
